Learning Skills

Learning skills are truly the foundation to any student’s success.  The Progress Report that comes out in the fall places an emphasis on learning skills because when these skills are weak it becomes very difficult for student to succeed in the various subject areas.  At Destinations we want our students to maximize their growth in the learning skills, not just because it will help them with their overall academic success, but because we know that it is key to their success later on in life.

To help students monitor and maximize their progress in the various learning skills, we have broken down the learning skills into “look fors.”  These “look fors” are things that we should see the student doing as evidence that they are achieving at a particular level in each skill.  Students complete a self-assessment on the rubric each term, and design strategies to help them continue to improve.  Each self-assessment is followed by a one-on-one conference with their teacher to discuss what the teacher sees, and to assist with developing strategies for growth.

If you wish to view the self-assessment rubric for learning skills, click on the link below.  Please keep in mind that the rubric may be revised as the year goes on to reflect the needs of our students.
